For its first release, ‘Chalkpit Cassette Club’ has teamed up with Leeds/York based alt-rockers The Howl & The Hum and Leeds label Come Play With Me. A balancing act between insightful, literate song-writing and buoyant indie-rock sound, The Howl & The Hum’s sounds combines influences as varied as Allen Ginsberg and Lizzo, resulting in an unforgettable sonic cocktail that is a refreshing respite in an over-saturated industry. Striving to constantly innovate and to write music for the depths of the human soul, this quartet are definitely someone to look out for.
Bringing together new and unheard recordings of the band’s favourite songs from across their discography, this exclusive ‘Chalkpit Cassette Club’ release traces the band’s extraordinary journey from York’s open mic scene. A mixture of hopes, dreams, memories and experimentations, it is a glimpse into the band’s creative process, seducing us anew with their cinematic sound. Ultimately, it is a celebration of creativity in all of its forms, paying tribute to one’s beginnings and looking brightly into the future.

“These songs are the story of our band. Some of them stretch back to when we first started playing together, some even further back than that, so they contain a lot of moments and memories we hold very close. This experience was an excavation of old ideas for us, songs that had fallen by the wayside for whatever reason, and the earliest development of the band: a museum of the different skins we’ve shed over the last few years.
After a year without live performance, it felt like the right time to breathe new life into something old. And to anyone who’s stuck with us: thank you so much for all of your support up to now. We would have called it a day by now if it wasn’t for you.”
